What Is Afro-Caribbean Chic?
We are so excited that you’ll be joining us for our wedding in the beautiful island of Tobago! A wedding in the Caribbean is obviously very fitting for two Caribbean peeps but Dwayne and I also want to infuse a touch of our African heritage. So, we landed on an Afro-Caribbean Chic attire for our wedding. As you plan your trip, we know you may be thinking “What is Afro-Caribbean Chic?” Here are some tips on how to dress for an Afro-Caribbean wedding in Tobago in July.
First, it's important to keep in mind that the climate in Tobago can be hot and humid in July, so you'll want to choose clothing that is lightweight and breathable. Opt for natural fabrics such as cotton or linen, which will help keep you cool in the warm weather.
In terms of colors and prints, Afro-Caribbean weddings are known for their vibrant and bold colors. This is your chance to have fun with your outfit and add a pop of color to your wardrobe. Consider wearing a colorful print or patterned dress or shirt, or even a bold, brightly colored suit.
For women, a knee-length dress or skirt is a great option, paired with comfortable sandals or flats. As it’s an evening wedding, you may also choose to wear a floral maxi dress, tank midi dress or jumpsuit as described in this article titled “What To Wear To A Caribbean Wedding, then add that African touch. You can also accessorize with jewelry and a colorful headwrap or scarf.
For men, a lightweight suit in a bold color or print is a great option. Alternatively, you can opt for a dress shirt paired with dress pants and a blazer. Loafers or dress shoes will complete the look. See article mentioned above for other ideas and add your African flavor to it!
It's important to note that Afro-Caribbean weddings are often lively and festive events, so don't be afraid to add some personality to your outfit. A brightly colored tie/bowtie or pocket square for men or a statement necklace for women can add some flair to your outfit.
Finally, be sure to bring a lightweight jacket or shawl, as the temperature can drop in the evening or if it’s breezy. Additionally, be sure to bring comfortable shoes for dancing the night away. There will be lots of dancing and shenanigans!
Dressing for an Afro-Caribbean wedding is all about embracing color, patterns, and a festive atmosphere. With these tips in mind, you'll be sure to look amazing for the occasion while also staying cool and comfortable in the Tobago heat. We can’t wait to celebrate with you’ll!
