Shelly-Ann’s Story

Shelly-Ann (the Scribe) was born and raised in Jamaica, spending much of her childhood and adult life in Kingston and St. Andrew. She experienced a big life change and moved to Tampa 7 years ago with her son, Benjamin to start over. She is a PR, Communications and Marketing professional who often uses her strong writing skills to connect with others. She enjoys travelling and spending time with family and friends.

Dwayne’s Story

Dwayne (the Techie) was born in Guyana and spent much of his life in the US, emigrating to New York at the age of 5. He is known for his digital strategy and creative work, often blurring the lines between a technologist and a skilled tradesman. He travels worldwide for both endeavors. He loves his family, friends, and a good lime.

Our Story

We met in 2017 at a mutual friend’s house in Tampa. Dwayne was visiting her as he was in town. I came by that same day to get Ben as she was watching him while I attended a work event. I was amazed at how easy it was to talk with Dwayne. He was very complimentary about Ben as they were chatting before I got there. I shared the challenges of transitioning from elementary to middle school in the US. After getting home I sent a thank you message to our friend and mentioned that Dwayne seemed like a nice guy. Now, after 5 years of “meking life” we're continuing the journey with a celebration of our union!
